If you are new to racing you may have noticed that many races available on Betfair have (Place) along side the race. This tells you that in these races the horse you bet on doesn’t have to win it just has to come in the Top2, 3 or 4 (depending on the runners in the race).
Under the Betfair “Rules” tab on each race it will tell you how many places the race pays out.
This is important especially for “layers” because if you lay a horse in a 3 place race it only has to come in the top 3 for you to lose, this is why the prices on these races tend to be lower. One other thing to remember Betfair does not change the Place rule for NR’s. (Non runners)
If you select (Place) races with this option you can choose whether you want the GHB to only bet on 2, 3 or 4 place markets or all 3!
This option when turned on allows the bot to scan the entire field and place a bet on any runner that falls within your betting criteria.
Bet on rank/ index
This function tells the GHB to place bets based on a ranking or index system between your odds trigger range
Rank = Bet on runners based on ranked odds order, 1st being the favorite and so on
Index = Bet on the runners in index order as shown on the betfair markets
This could be particularly useful in greyhounds as it allows you to make your selections based on trap numbers (Betfair run their greyhound indexes in trap order 1 – 6)
It can also be used well in football for match odds markets where you have home, away and draw selections. (Betfair always display the home team as index 1)
Tells the GHB to bet on any runner that falls within your odds trigger range
These tell the GHB to use the rank table as shown below
Bet on any rank
You can now ask the GHB to bet on any runner that is within a ranked group by selecting the options above.
So for example:
Let’s say you want to bet on any of the top 3 ranked runners but only one of them, you can use the bet on any rank button and select a rank range and GHB will make the selection for you.
Shadow betting
This feature is one of our favorite additions in recent times and makes use of the existing rank betting system to scan the market for certain conditions to be present before a bet is placed. We call this shadow betting because GHB looks at the odds for the shadowed runner/s as if it is going to place a bet on them but uses the information instead as a condition against the rank bet selected runner/s
So for example
I want to bet on the favourite, but only if the 2nd fav is between 3.00 and 5.00 and the 3rd fav is between 7.00 and 10.00
I set my master odds trigger range to 1.02 – 10.00 and select Bet on rank 1
For the 2nd and 3rd ranked runners I select Shdw (shadow) and set my custom odds ranges for the shadow runners
GHB will then apply these conditions to the shadow betting and only bet on the fav if these conditions are met.
Extended bet on rank options
Hitting this green button opens up the additional bet on rank options that allow you to select by rank up to 30 runners
Bet on rank uses your odds trigger range to pick up bets based on the odds from best to worst. You can bet on the top 6 ranked runners and the last 2 runners, you can also customise the odds trigger ranges for each ranked runner by double clicking default next to your ranked selection
Once presented with this window you can choose the range you specifically want your selection to fall into
For example:
I want to bet on the favourite in every race, but only if the favourite falls in between 1.02 and 3.00
This tells the GHB notto place any bets unless all of the rank criteria are met, best used with the custom odds ranges the bot will not place any bets on your chosen market should 1 or more runners not meet your rank settings
This switches on the dutching feature and is linked with the dutching tab click here to view the dutching help page
With standard dutching you can choose the runners you wish to dutch by rank in the same way that you would choose the bet on rank options however your liability will be split accross these runners as opposed to individual stakes on each.
Maximum dutching tells the GHB to make the selections for you based on a calculation to make maximum profit, you will see once choosing this option that the rank options are greyed out. GHB will then work out the amount of runners and what rank they need to be and split your liability accross them based on the max dutching book % or target profit you have chosen in the dutching tab
