What is Trading ?

In simple terms the idea behind trading is that you can bet on a horse or Greyhound then if the price changes in the right direction you can trade out for what is known as “All Green”. This means that it doesn’t matter if your selection wins or loses then you will win. The term “all green” comes from the Betfair screen which changes the figures all to green (instead of red and green) when you have made a successful trade.

How to trade

Lets say that you want to lay a horse but if that price changes before the off or during the race then you would like to protect your losses or lock in a profit by placing a back bet at a slightly increased value. using the below functions you can do this automatically with the bot.

Enables Trading

Enables Closeout positions

If this option is selected then GHB will automatically close any outstanding trade to the best profit or the least loss as it can within the time limit you choose in the TTS and TAS boxes

Enables trading in play(in running)

If this option is selected GHB will continue to trade as the race goes in running and will trade out during the race

Works with the closeout option above, TTS will attempt to close the trade before it goes in play

Works with the closeout options above, TAS will attempt to close the trade in play

Sets the number of seconds before the off that the GHB will fire the first bet into the market for trading

This option allows you to select the trading mode, you can work to tick values or a percentage movement in odds

Here is an explanation of each of these features

Trade tick value
This is the tick value that you want to trade out. Tick values are the odds increments as used by Betfair and are different dependant on the prices.
From 1.01 to 2.00 it is normally 0.01 so if you layed a horse at 1.60 and set the tick value to 5 then the bot would try to trade out at 1.65.
At odds of 2.00 to 3.00 it is usually 0.02 so if you layed a horse at 2.00 and set the tick value to 5 then the bot would try to trade out at 2.10

Sets the tick value at which you wish to trade out set to 0 to disable and use just stop loss

Stop loss

This works in the opposite way to the tick value, and allows you to close a trade if the price should move ticks in the negative direction, thus protecting against heavy losses should a sucessful positive trade not occur. Set to 0 to disable and just use trade out value.

Percent change
This works in much the same way as the tick value feature but will look at percentage movements in odds as opposed to tick points

So for example

This will tell the GHB to trade out if there is a positive change in odds of 25% of the initial matched odds or a negative change in odds of 25% of the initial matched odds.

You can disable either in the same way as the tick values by entering 0

These radio buttons tell the GHB what type of trade you wish to place, frequent traders will be familliar with the terms used here but for those who are new to trading

Equalized tradeout

If this option is selected then the GHB will attempt a trade to make the same amount of profit should your selected runner win or lose

Freebet
If this option is selected then the GHB will attempt to protect your losses by creating a trade that will ensure 0 losses if your selection loses whilst still making a profit should your selection win

Trading FAQ

Q. I have trading enabled and my bot is placing the initial bet but it is not trading out, why is this?

A.
1.Trade out bets cannot be placed in paper trading mode because the bot requires a live bet to calculate the trade out stake
2. Check that you are not betting with a stake value of under 50p, the bot will find it hard to make a trading bet under this value.
3. Check that your tick values/ % movements are reasonable for the market
4. If you have trade in play ticked, make sure that you have "go in running" ticked on the inplay tab

Q. Can I trade out on multiple runners?

A. Our testing has shown that the bot can cope with a maximum of 2 - 3 runners to trade out on using the rank options, this is due to heavy API usage during trading mode, if you are willing to possibly accept charges from betfair for excessive API loads then it is possible to trade on more runners
