I have been sitting in the same chair for many, many years but it finally had to go.

I just wanted to replace it with the same model...

...But of course, you can not get "that" model any more.

So I am now having to get used to a totally new chair.

It's not easy :-)

I thought we would have a chat about Place selections today and a possible selection method.

The beauty of "Place" is that there can be several markets that you can play in, including 2,3 or 4 TBP and with enough runners, you may find 5 TBP as well.

Ok, so here are some suggestions.

1) Handicap races.

These races give you well-established form and so they are probably easier to profile than other races.

2) 8 to 12 runners 

Sometimes I will go down to 6, but then you could come up against much lower prices.

8 to 12 tends to be reasonable prices with not too many horses to have to think about.

3) Last 3 runs.
There are a couple of things I like to do see.

a) Add up the last 3 runs and see if that is 12 or below.
9-26235 (235 = 10)

b) Was their last run the same or better than the run before?

In the above example, the horse has actually finished worse than the race before (and the race before that).

It's better to see something like this:
33444 or this 389273 or this 886-421.

4) Has it won at this class?

Class is important and a runner going up in class can find it a lot harder.

5) Has it won at this distance?
We want to know if the horse can handle the distance and so we should look for horses that have won or performed well at the same distance.

And as an added bonus, has it won at the course?

There are further checks you can do, like:

Won at going?
Won at Weight?
Is it up or down in class?
Is it up and down in weight?

If you try this with PR Ratings, you can have all the columns ready to use.

I have actually added a shared save called "Not a System" which lays out the columns you can use to find "Place" selections.

Just look back through history to get ideas on how to select the best runners...
