..Than doing a year's test...

The 3D printer has been working hard this week.

I am meeting up with family this weekend and there are going to be a few kids.

So I thought some 3D printed toys would go down well :-)

Sometimes I think there are many easier ways to run a test than using real money...

...or spending a year doing a test.

Mr Web from Betangle fame released a video about a year-long test "backing" favourites just before the off.

He basically backed every (or nearly every) favourite at post time (not BSP) on Betfair for around a year.

He reported that without commission, they made a profit...

...But once they added commission, they lost money.

Oh yeah, he also used "Liability" staking, which is where you always try to make the same amount of profit no matter what the price.

Now there is no criticism here. I love testing and do it all the time...

...I just think he just had to ask and I could have given him the information.

So let me break it down... admittedly to BSP, but they would have been close.

Over the last year, there have been 10034 favourites.

Without commission, you could have made 110 points profit...

...But with 2% commission, that drops down to -20 points, which is pretty much what he said in the video.

Note: think what this means if you are still paying 5% commission on Betfair...

...2% puts you in a loss, another 3% on top is devastating!

Interestingly, if you use "Liability" it's even worse, so I am not sure about that...But Peter says it best!

I am going to stick to 1 point.

Peter mentioned that armed with this information, you could now find ways to make a profit...

...But didn't actually expand on that.

Of course, all you out there that are going to accuse me of back testing...Here we go.

All Peter had to do was stick to "Handicap" races only and the profit for the last year's favourites was...

...124.39 points!

All he had to do to learn that was fire up PR Ratings and he could have found that out fast :-)
