...Place your bet...

After quite a busy weekend last week...
...Today I thought I would take it easy.
Although it should be a bit cooler today, so having a long bike ride may be too enticing :-)

Hi there
It's Saturday, it's warm, so I will make this quick.
I have had a few emails asking about whether to Dutch a race early or before the off.
Here is a little story...
Yesterday I was looking at the 10:15 maiden race at Doncaster.
I am not over keen on Dutching maiden races, but the price of the favourite was over 2...
...and the comments pointed towards several possible winners.
I was looking at the race at about 9:30 and noticed I could "back" every other runner except the favourite for about 81% of my stake.
While trying to record my thoughts on the race, I clicked the wrong button on the software...
...And placed the Dutch without the favourite.
(The day before, I had forgotten to click the "Place Bet" button!).
Now, at the time, I was still a little unsure about the favourite, especially at a price of 2.20.
But its nearest rival was 2.90.
Fast forward to a couple of minutes before the race.
The favourite "Alpinara" was now trading nearer 1.80.
That changed the race for me, and I should have just traded out for a loss of about 20% of my stake...
...Yes, you can do that.
It takes a lot for me to decide to take on an "Odds On" favourite.
(Read my article)
So this is an example of a race I would not have taken on if I had seen the prices before the off...
...But it looked more enticing earlier in the day.
Just a little fact.
From yesterday's video, you can see that favourites win around 35/36% of the time.
"Tissue" favourites (Early opinions sometimes from the night before) only win 28.81% of the time.
